I know about blood and bone and how bodies decompose.
I know about shadows and stones and hatchets.
I know what a last cry for help sounds like.
I know what blood looks like on my own hands.
What I don't know:
what do the living owe the dead?
"Bick (Drowning Instinct) crafts a powerful tale of bigotry and murder in small-town Wisconsin....a potent examination of teenage emotions and reactions to peer and parental pressures, and to the evil that people are capable of." --*starred*, Publishers Weekly
"Bick's compelling tale manages to be a blistering confessional and a page-turning whodunit (or maybe what-really-happened) all in one... Readers won't be able to look away even if they find they don't much like—or trust—Ben." --*starred,* Kirkus Reviews

The Apocalypse does not end.
The Changed will grow in numbers.
The Spared may not survive.
"The world's gone completely to hell...Plenty of mysteries and betrayals set up the trilogy’s forthcoming conclusion, which fans will eagerly await."--Kirkus Reviews
"...a thrilling series ... Bick really reaches down into hell and explores the souls (or lack thereof) of truly depraved people."--Examiner.com
"...an exceptionally well-developed look at one way in which the end of the world could play out."--Horn Book
"...Bick brilliantly builds upon the world she created in Ashes — layering in complex new twists that will keep the reader eagerly turning pages and on the figurative edge of their seat. --NovelNovice.com
"...[Shadows] takes the bloodshed to a whole new level ... rumor and miscommunication abound to the extent that readers are unsure of what is true. And, as with the first volume, a cliff-hanger ending means that most of these questions won’t be answered."--School Library Journal
"Shadows ends with a boom...keeps you hooked until the very last moment."--Cari's Book Blog

I don't want to tell this story, and you know why?
Because this is a fairy tale with teeth and claws.
But this is the truth: I 'm a liar.
I am lucky, a liar, a good girl, a princess, a thief--and a killer.
And my reality--
my story--
begins with Mr. Anderson.

I’m certainly glad you haven’t turned into a quivering pile of goo because of critiques. If you did I might never know what happens to Alex and the rest. D:
LOL!! Oh, that wouldn’t stop me, but it might make me drink heavily
They must not appreciate the maturity! I know several people who would NOT like ASHES or SHADOWS – but I also think they are on a different intellectual level than me. :]
Well, clearly, they don’t know a good thing when they see it
