As Predicted…

THE DAY

It wasn’t much of one, writing-wise.  Basically, it was a day for life maintenance: doctor appt., then a swim because I was down there already, then errands, and then the big decision of whether I ought to go to do a touch more research or go back up the mountain and try to get some words in.

Decided to go back.  Daughter called almost immediately and we had about a half hour’s talk.  (She’s better, poor thing.)  Pretty tired when I hit the house, though, and after the call, I managed a page and then sprawled on the floor for a nap.  Yeah, I never use a couch or bed; I’m afraid that if I get too comfortable, I’ll sleep a really long time.  A 15-20 minute cat nap is all I really need–although Timmy kept biting and pawing at my hair: Wake up!  Finally dozed off and then woke about 20 minutes later because the husband came home early to meet a workman about thus and such.  (Thank heavens, he hasn’t balked at this, but I pretty much said that, with this move, I was simply not going to do everything around the house anymore.)

Then he finally left, and I went to work.  Managed about 1000 words, with a lot of editing and weaving, too.  Not bad.  Not terrific, but not bad.

I’m making progress.  I just keep telling myself that.  I’m making progress.  This book will get done.  I know how it ends.  I know what book comes next.  This will get done, and all the nipping and tucking and blood-letting going on now is necessary.

But, boy, sometimes I wonder why I do this.

What I’m Reading:
Same as before.  My, this is taking a long time.  OTOH, here’s a funny one: I found this potentially AWESOME resource.  The article I read was dated 2012 and included an epilogue, which led me to assume that the book was pretty close to being done.  But nothing appeared.  Finally got in touch with the author today–an academic–and she’s still writing the bloody thing!  I’m sorry, but that’s ridiculous.  If you already have the epilogue, where’s the book?  She was also EXTREMELY unhelpful in terms of pointing me to other resources.  Sure, I understand it’s not her job, but here’s the thing: she was all set to pimp me if I had some personal interest/investment/knowledge/history of the time she’s interested in.  As soon as I turned out not to be helpful, then it was like . . . who are you?

Typical.
