THE DAY<\/p>\n
I have a confession to make.<\/p>\n
I know why this particular beginning is tough (although, really, they all are): because I’m not doing the book I spent the last month (before the novella) outlining.<\/p>\n
Don’t ask me why. \u00a0Okay, you can ask me why, and what I’d say is . . . beats me. \u00a0But when I got around to actually beginning the thing, I was . . . just not interested? \u00a0Is that right? \u00a0Or was it that I was having a hard time imagining the setting? \u00a0(That was part of it.)<\/p>\n
Another part, though: I really felt like I was revisiting territory I’d already traveled in terms of story. \u00a0Which isn’t good.<\/p>\n
So, in the interim, I had gotten another couple of ideas. \u00a0In the end, I just closed my eyes and thought,\u00a0Okay, which one interests you more?<\/em><\/p>\n I picked one. \u00a0I’m going for it. \u00a0I’m also going to finish it because I just have to. \u00a0I just bloody have to.<\/p>\n But, because I haven’t plotted it or thought the WHOLE thing through…yeah, it’s slow, and then I think,\u00a0Jeez, cut yourself a break. \u00a0Just go with it, write it, try to have fun. \u00a0<\/em>I think I’m a touch freaked out that I’m doing this to myself, this writing in the dark. \u00a0Like…is this really efficient or not? \u00a0I guess I’ll find out.<\/p>\n If I can’t have some fun, though…what’s the point?<\/p>\n Oh, and yeah: the first two days? \u00a0Those were words for the OTHER book. \u00a0So just ignore that man behind the curtain.<\/p>\n WRITING OUT LOUD<\/p>\n New Novel (started 5\/05)<\/p>\n Day 1: 1000 Blog Post: 350 THE DAY I have a confession to make. \nNothing. \u00a0Listening for the voices to coalesce in my head. \u00a0Here’s what I don’t want: a bitter heroine. \u00a0Here’s what I also don’t want: a helpless, pathetic heroine. \u00a0Do I want her to be a little kick-ass? \u00a0Sure, but only if she’s believable. \u00a0When kids are pissed at their parents…writing that is tough because you really don’t want the poison to seep into everything. \u00a0They become unlikable, then, and completely unsympathetic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
