And not much happened on the writing front even though I took the Surface along.<\/p>\n
THE DAY<\/p>\n
I know other writers can work in hotel rooms and on the road. I’ve done this myself when I was on tour and had deadlines, things that needed to get done. \u00a0Were those productive days? \u00a0Not really. \u00a0I know some writers who actually checked themselves into hotels in order so they wouldn’t be distracted.<\/p>\n
I’m not one of those writers.<\/p>\n
Now, you could say that maybe I don’t apply myself; that I need to buckle down, blah, blah. \u00a0I agree, actually. \u00a0I think that’s true. \u00a0If I were by myself and in a hotel room, with no husband, nothing on the horizon except work stuff . . . then, maybe. \u00a0I think I always looked at travel days as lost days, when maybe it’s a matter of discipline that I’ve not developed yet–at least when it comes to travel.<\/p>\n
Which is a long-winded way of saying that I got nothing done while I was away. \u00a0Oh, I opened up the Surface; I tapped out a few lines here and there while on the plane and in the coffee shop downstairs. \u00a0But concerted, concentrated work? \u00a0Forget it. \u00a0My bad; I’ll own it.<\/p>\n
Garrison Keillor once said he writes every day unless his wife reminds him that he’s on vacation. \u00a0If you believe Stephen King, and I kinda do, he writes every day regardless.<\/p>\n
I don’t have that kind of life. \u00a0I don’t have that kind of family that would allow for that. \u00a0But writing every day can take various forms. \u00a0If I write a page, does that count? \u00a0I think it should.<\/p>\n
So…did I write a page on the plane? \u00a0I actually did. \u00a0I also wrote a few paragraphs on Friday and Saturday. \u00a0Then, Sunday, once I was home, I\u00a0got back to work. \u00a0A rough start and when do I EVER get as far along as I’d like? \u00a0(Well, I do, under deadline. \u00a0I sense a theme here.) \u00a0But not too bad for gearing up again.<\/p>\n

\nWhat I’m Watching:
\nCaught up with\u00a0The Americans. \u00a0<\/em>Watched\u00a0Pawn Sacrifice<\/em>, which was surprisingly good. \u00a0Even though I knew the history, I was in suspense. \u00a0Also watched half of the first episode of the new season of\u00a0Wayward Pines<\/em>. \u00a0Meh . . . underwhelmed. \u00a0This backstory I know, and the setup isn’t nearly as compelling this time around. \u00a0Like…I don’t care about a civil war. \u00a0Even though I’d read the books, I was much more invested the first time around, quite possibly because Matt Dillon is a much better actor than Jason Patric, who only bores me.
